I don't think it will be possible to do any better than the following
1 (A C)
2 (D E)
3 (B C)
4 (A D)
5 (B E)
6 (C D)
7 (A B)
8 (C E)
9 (B D)
10 (A E)
Writing down the slots that each player has been assigned gives the following table:
A 1,4,7,10
B 3,5,7,9
C 1,3,6,8
D 2,4,6,9
E 2,5,8,10
So A is the only player to have two free periods between all matches and should be your number 1 seed. E is the number two seed since they have 2 breaks of 2 periods and 1 break of 1 period. C and D are equal third and fourth seeds. B is the fifth seed since there is a break of only one period between all 4 matches.
Hope that helps,
Ian.
