Title: 16 players 31 rounds with partners
Post by: denisemorrison on September 12, 2009, 10:49:43 AM
Hi. I really hope someone can help me. I'm running a pitch league with 16 players. We play for 16 weeks with 2 sets each week. There will be 31 rounds (there is a position round in the middle). I need to set it up so that everyone plays with and against each other as close to equal as possible without them sitting at the same tables all the time. PLEASE help me. I'm a full-time student and just can't wrap my head around this and am now wasting valuable study time (obviously I'm not a math major or I would be able to see the answer to this!)  :)

If this is normal doubles play, then click on the schedules button above, and dial up a Whist schedule for 16 players.  You will need two versions of this to make 30 balanced rounds of play where each player gets all 15 partners exactly twice each.  To avoid playing the same matches twice then make a different reassignment of the 16 players to numbers 1 to 16 for the second copy of the schedule.  The 31st round of play will unbalance the schedule, however you are free to play any 4 matches that you like.

Hope that helps.
