As a non mathematician I'm struggling to organise a schedule for a golf tournament of 8 people playing 7 rounds
As well as playing each other once ( the easy bit
) they will also be playing in a pairs competition, the difficulty arises in trying to make sure that the number of times they play in a 4 ball with any other individual is as equal as possible.
It seems to me that given the numbers it isn't possible to ensure this is possible but before I spend the next few days in a pointless exercise I would be delighted to know
a ) if I am correct and it is impossible to arrange
b ) if I am wrong and it can be done how do I do it ?
c ) if I am right but there is a ' best scenario' which minimises imbalance what is it ?
