Couldn't find this anywhere else so here it goes...

I have 12 players (Player 1, Player 2, ... ,Player 12)

I have 2 courts available for a 3-on-3 tournament.

I want it so that everyone plays with and against everyone equally. If I figured it out correctly, it should result in each player playing with every player 2 times and against every player 3 times.

I've done head-to-head scheduling problems before and foursomes but never an odd number of 3 and am stuck in the rotations.

Any help, suggestions, ideas?

There is a balanced schedule exactly as you describe here.  The same thread also contains a link to the original source from the combinatorial math literature.

If you use the search facility on this message board, 'volleyball' and 'triples' are two good search terms to try.

Hope that helps,

Ian.
