I have 6 men vying for 4 positions on a team. Need to establish their "ranks".   How do I do the round robin play as doubles where they play with most or all of each other?
thx so much for any help!

There is no balanced round-robin that you could use to do this.   For example I can make the following schedule:

[(B E):(C D)]
[(C E):(D F)]
[(B D):(A C)]
[(E F):(A B)]
[(A F):(B C)]
[(B F):(D E)]
[(A E):(C F)]

But, A never partners D, and also  A & D have one game fewer than the others.  The opponent balance is poor, 3 pairs only oppose once, while the pair E & F oppose 3 times.

Thanks appreciate your response and confirming what I thought to be true.  I did one RR where 1 player plays with all 5 players and the rest played with 3.  I suggested that the strongest be allocated first position of the 4, then the 5 vy for the remaining 3 positions.   Thx again
