Help.  Beer Olympics.  10 games with 32 teams of 2 people.  I can change the number of games to less or more and I'm fine with buys.  We can have pools or whatever.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks, Jill.

Can you give a few more details please.  Approximately how many rounds are possible?  What is the general aim? To have each team play each game once?  To compete against each other team (within a pool) exactly once?

If there are pools, are they independent of each other, so no shared facility/equipment?

Thanks,  Ian

lol.  All great questions.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  We don't need to have each team play each other in every game.  That would be like 16 rounds for each game.  it would take forever.

- each team to play each other once within a pool
- each pool can have designated game(s)
- pools can be independent of each other.
- 2 facilities or 1 (my yard and my neighbor).
- each team does NOT have to play every potential game.
- I can come up with as many game as we need.  You can call them Game#1, #2, #3, #4 etc.
- there can be "buys" for rest
- pool winners go to bracket play with a designated game for the bracket.

This is for fun (bach/bachelorette party) so less complicated the better.  Nothing official.  Goal is for there to be pool play, then winner of each pool plays a small bracket to get to a winner.  Approximately 32 teams but that will change as we get closer.  I can work with it.

THANKS LOADS!

If there are 30 or 32 teams, then I have possible solutions with 7 or 8 games respectively.

For 30 teams, they would need to be divided into 2 pools of 7 and 2 pools of 8.  Each yard is assigned one pool of 7 teams and one pool of 8 teams, then you could play the following schedule at each yard:
Code: [Select]
Pool 1: A to H
Pool 2: I to O

Game1 Game2 Game3 Game4 Game5 Game6 Game7   Byes
(H A) (M J) (L K) (O N) (C B) (G E) (F D)   [I]
(E B) (H F) (G D) (J L) (M K) (C A) (I O)   [N]
(D C) (O L) (H E) (B G) (A F) (I J) (N K)   [M]
(G F) (B D) (J O) (H C) (L I) (N M) (E A)   [K]
(K J) (E C) (I N) (D A) (H G) (B F) (L M)   [O]
(O M) (K I) (A B) (F E) (J N) (H D) (C G)   [L]
(N L) (A G) (F C) (M I) (D E) (K O) (H B)   [J]

The schedule is arranged so that every member of a pool plays every other member of that pool, and no team plays the same game twice.

For 32 teams there is something similar for 4 pools of 8 teams as follows:

Code: [Select]
Pool 1: A to H
Pool 2: I to P

Game1 Game2 Game3 Game4 Game5 Game6 Game7 Game8
(O P) (I J) (K L) (M N) (G H) (A B) (C D) (E F)
(F H) (M O) (B D) (A C) (N P) (E G) (J L) (I K)
(J K) (F G) (M P) (I L) (B C) (N O) (E H) (A D)
(I N) (L P) (C G) (B E) (A F) (D H) (K O) (J M)
(D G) (A E) (J N) (K P) (L O) (I M) (B F) (C H)
(C E) (B H) (I O) (D F) (K M) (J P) (A G) (L N)
(L M) (K N) (A H) (J O) (D E) (C F) (I P) (B G)

Would either of those be useful?

Ian this looks great.  I will take a dive into it and see if it works.  Thanks so much!  Definitely, omething to start with!  We are going to try to have an RSVP so I will know when we get those back.
