Dear All:

Looking for a matrix so that 7 men and 7 women. Each man plays with each woman once.

8 players
12 players - no balanced schedule exists.
16 players
18 players
20 players - no balanced schedule exists but see here
24 players see below
32 players You would need to rearrange the play to fit on 6 courts rather than 8.

Doesn't need to be PERFECTLY BALANCED, but anything you can do for 14 PLAYERS would be greatly appreciated. Please help! Putting on a tournament for the Super Bowl.

Thanks!

see here for a 14 player schedule.  You would need to add a round where six of the spouse pairs partner in order to get as close as possible to "Each man plays with each woman once".  Perfect balance is of course impossible since there are an odd number of man-woman partnerships possible (49), but any schedule must have an even number of partnerships.

Example 2.8 in this paper may help if you can play in 'short' rounds with 2 games in each round.
