I have a volleyball league with 10 teams.  We can only play 4 games per evening, so 2 teams will need to receive byes each week.  How can I create a balanced schedule?

There are 45 games in the complete round-robin, and as this number is not divisible by 4, it creates problems.   You could play 11 rounds with 2 byes per week, but this leaves one extra game to be played (i.e. one game and 8 byes in a 12th round), so it may well be better to play 9 rounds with 2 byes, and 3 rounds with 4 byes, like this:

(A D) (I J) (B C) (E H)
(B J) (C F) (D E) (A G)
(B I) (G H) (A F) (---)
(B H) (D J) (G I) (C E)
(D F) (A H) (B G) (E I)
(F I) (C D) (---) (G J)
(C H) (B E) (F J) (A I)
(A J) (F G) (H I) (B D)
(E G) (---) (A C) (D I)
(C G) (A E) (H J) (B F)
(E J) (C I) (D G) (F H)
(D H) (A B) (E F) (C J)

Teams appear either two or three times in each of the four columns (courts).
