I'be been using the "sample tennis doubles schedule with rotating partners and opponents" for 2 courts and 9 players for 10 years (wonderful!), but now we have 8 players! I can't deal with logarithms, sorry!

If you click on the 'schedules' button near the top of this page, then click on 'whist' you will get a basic schedule for 8 players and 7 rounds which has partner and opponent balance.  5 copies of this would give you 35 weeks.   To avoid repeating exactly the same doubles match-ups, for each copy make a different random assignment of the 8 player names to the numbers 1 to 8.   Also randomly assign the two matches in each round to the two courts, since as it stands player 8 will play on court 1 for 7 weeks in a row.

Thanks - I'll give it a try.
