Hi,

I was wondering if you could help with round robin pickleball doubles matches .  Nowhere can I find the information that I require.

I have information sheets for 2 courts and doubles play between the numbers of  8 and 11 playing up to  6 rounds.  10 rounds would be better however. ?

We now have 3 courts on some sessions..

I never know how many players are coming but always between 12 and 16.
Would you be able to give me the information for the 3 courts playing 10 rounds, if 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 players turn up.

It would be a godsend.
Kind regards
Kate Speed

I have looked at the 3 court scenarios.  For 12 players use the standard whist schedule for 12 items and remove the last round - you can find an example here.  The other schedules will all have some players having one more game than others - I can find reasonable solutions for 13, 14 and 15 players but I think 16 players is particularly difficult and I have nothing good yet.  Below each game (A B C D) should be played as (A B vs C D).

13 players 3 courts 10 rounds
  (10  7  8  3) ( 2  9 11 13) ( 5 12  4  6)  ( 1)
  (10  5  1 13) ( 8  2 12  9) (11  6  7  4)  ( 3)
  (13  6 12  1) ( 7  5  9 10) ( 8 11  3  2)  ( 4)
  ( 8 12  4 10) ( 9  1  6  3) (13  7  2 11)  ( 5)

Hello Ian,

Can you expand these schedules so that each player has the same number of byes?
I believe that would be 13 rounds for 13 players and 14 rounds for 14 players. For 15 players, I can just use a 16-player whist schedule and assign the bye to player #16.

Thank you,

Dwayne

P.S. I have found your site so helpful in developing schedules for our groups. Thank you so much for all of your work on this!

Hello Dwayne,

13 rounds and 13 players is a actually a standard Whist schedule which you can find in my post here.

I have put two schedules below where each game (A B C D) should be played as (A B vs C D).  Players with byes are in the last column.

14 players, 14 rounds, 3 courts, 2 byes per round

  (14  4  5  7)  (2  8 13  9) (12 11  6  3)    (1 10)
  ( 8  5  6  1)  (3  9 14 10) (13 12  7  4)    (2 11)
  ( 9  6  7  2)  (4 10  8 11) (14 13  1  5)    (3 12)
  (10  7  1  3)  (5 11  9 12) ( 8 14  2  6)    (4 13)
  (11  1  2  4)  (6 12 10 13) ( 9  8  3  7)    (5 14)
  (12  2  3  5)  (7 13 11 14) (10  9  4  1)    (6  8)
  (13  3  4  6)  (1 14 12  8) (11 10  5  2)    (7  9)

  ( 9 14  4 11)  (5 13  3  2) (12  7  8  6)    (1 10)
  (10  8  5 12)  (6 14  4  3) (13  1  9  7)    (2 11)
  (11  9  6 13)  (7  8  5  4) (14  2 10  1)    (3 12)
  (12 10  7 14)  (1  9  6  5) ( 8  3 11  2)    (4 13)
  (13 11  1  8)  (2 10  7  6) ( 9  4 12  3)    (5 14)
  (14 12  2  9)  (3 11  1  7) (10  5 13  4)    (6  8)
  ( 8 13  3 10)  (4 12  2  1) (11  6 14  5)    (7  9)

15 players, 15 rounds, 3 courts, 3 byes per round

  (14  3 12  2) ( 8  5  4 13) (10  9  7 15)    (1  6 11)
  (15  4 13  3) ( 9  6  5 14) (11 10  8  1)    (2  7 12)
  ( 1  5 14  4) (10  7  6 15) (12 11  9  2)    (3  8 13)
  ( 2  6 15  5) (11  8  7  1) (13 12 10  3)    (4  9 14)
  ( 3  7  1  6) (12  9  8  2) (14 13 11  4)    (5 10 15)

  ( 4  8  2  7) (13 10  9  3) (15 14 12  5)    (1  6 11)
  ( 5  9  3  8) (14 11 10  4) ( 1 15 13  6)    (2  7 12)
  ( 6 10  4  9) (15 12 11  5) ( 2  1 14  7)    (3  8 13)
  ( 7 11  5 10) ( 1 13 12  6) ( 3  2 15  8)    (4  9 14)
  ( 8 12  6 11) ( 2 14 13  7) ( 4  3  1  9)    (5 10 15)

  ( 9 13  7 12) ( 3 15 14  8) ( 5  4  2 10)    (1  6 11)
  (10 14  8 13) ( 4  1 15  9) ( 6  5  3 11)    (2  7 12)
  (11 15  9 14) ( 5  2  1 10) ( 7  6  4 12)    (3  8 13)
  (12  1 10 15) ( 6  3  2 11) ( 8  7  5 13)    (4  9 14)
  (13  2 11  1) ( 7  4  3 12) ( 9  8  6 14)    (5 10 15)

The 15 player schedule will have slightly better properties than the one you can get from cutting down the 16 player schedule, for example the byes are optimally separated.

Hope that helps,

Ian
