I can find lots of schedules for 10 teams on 5 sheets but we only have 4 sheets.  Therefore two teams will be on bye each week.  I need to have the games balanced across the sheets so that one team doesn't play most of their games on the same sheet.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Here is one possible schedule:

  S1    S2    S3    S4
(A B) (H J) (E I) (---)
(C F) (B H) (A E) (D G)
(D I) (F J) (B G) (A C)
(E J) (D H) (C G) (A F)
(B D) (F I) (---) (E G)
(B E) (A G) (C H) (I J)
(G J) (C E) (D F) (H I)
(A I) (B C) (D J) (G H)
(A H) (---) (C J) (E F)
(E H) (G I) (A D) (B F)
(F G) (A J) (B I) (C D)
(C I) (D E) (F H) (B J)

The main issue is that the number of games to play (45) is not divisible by 4.  Therefore 12 weeks are necessary and so there must be 3 occasions when a sheet is left empty; above these are in rounds 1, 5 and 9, but let me know if you would like some other arrangement.   Teams should play either 2 or 3 times on each sheet.

I suppose saying "round robin" is in error since we are only doing 7 weeks.  The teams will not play all 9 of the competition.  We do need to have four games playing each time with four teams on bye.

Working on a solution I will put teams 1 and 2 on bye the first week; teams 3 and 4 the second week and so on.  Then just a matter of putting the remaining teams on alternate ices etc.

You could play something like this:

(J E) (D F) (G C) (A H) [BI]
(A G) (J I) (B H) (C F) [DE]
(D H) (G B) (E F) (I C) [AJ]
(I B) (A E) (D C) (J H) [FG]
(D J) (B F) (I A) (G E) [CH]
(E C) (I H) (J G) (D B) [AF]
(H F) (J C) (D A) (I E) [BG]

I have indicated byes in the last column.   Note that four teams A,F,B & G only have 5 games, while the others all get 6 games.
