I am in need of a tennis round robin schedule for 10, 11, and 12 people, where every person plays with everyone once, and plays each other the least amount of times.

I have a 13 player grid, where one person sits out each round and there is a total of 13 rounds -- I also found your whist schedule above which, I think solves my 12 person tourney.  Can you help?

Thanks!!

Candice,

Tournaments like the 12 and 16 person whist schedules below are only available when the number of players is a multiple of 4 (more formally 4n players where n is an integer greater than 1).

Other schedules like the 13 player grid, where one person sits out, are only available for 4n+1 players.

With 10 or 11 players (or indeed any number of the form 4n+2 or 4n+3) you have to sacrifice some aspects of the balance, that is introduce some bias or unfairness into the schedule.

This of course could cause you problems later on as the organiser of the tournament,
however if you have to do it then have a look at the following link which may give you a solution to your 10 player schedule if you are prepared to have two doubles matches and a singles match at each round.

Hope that helps,
Ian.
